Hey everyone! I was digging through some old tech articles today and stumbled upon a fascinating archive all about YouTube Music. It's wild to look back and see how much the service has evolved over the years!
The Early Beats (2015-2017)
Do you remember when YouTube Music first launched? It was November 13, 2015. It felt like a fresh new player in the streaming world. Just two years later, in November 2017, it officially became available for tablets, which was a nice improvement for anyone who enjoys music on a bigger screen.
Growing Up and Getting Smarter (2019)
2019 was a pretty significant year for the app. By April 30, you could finally play your own saved audio files right from within YouTube Music. Super convenient, right?
Later that year, on September 29, YouTube Music started replacing Play Music as the pre-installed app on Android 10. That was a clear sign of its growing importance!
And let's not forget YouTube Premium, which officially arrived in the GCC and Lebanon on September 10, 2019. More ad-free content for everyone!
Fresh Look and New Tools (2020)
The year 2020 brought some cool changes too. On April 4, the library got a smart new design, making it much easier to navigate and find your favorite tracks. Just a couple of weeks later, on April 15, a new "Explore" tab popped up, which is always great for discovering new artists and genres.
Then, by September 26, Shazam integrated with YouTube Music! That meant you could identify a song and then jump straight into listening to it on YouTube Music. How handy is that?
A Bizarre Industry Story (2024)
While looking through the archives, I also saw a really wild story from September 6, 2024. Apparently, someone scammed music streaming platforms with fake songs and managed to rake in $10 million! It just goes to show that the music industry always has its strange tales.
It's genuinely cool to see the whole journey of YouTube Music, from its beginnings to all the features we enjoy today. What a ride it's been for music lovers!
