Launched with an emphasis on performance and user experience, the device garnered considerable attention throughout its lifecycle, marked by a series of crucial software updates and community engagement.

Pre-Launch Buzz and Official Unveiling

The anticipation for the OnePlus 5T began to build in early November 2017. On November 6, OnePlus officially confirmed November 16 as the global unveiling date for the device. Adding to the excitement, the company also assured consumers that the price of the OnePlus 5T would not exceed $600, positioning it as a premium yet affordable option. Just days before its official launch, on November 11, live images and comprehensive specifications of the OnePlus 5T were leaked, giving enthusiasts an early glimpse of what was to come. Finally, on November 16, 2017, the OnePlus 5T was officially revealed to the public.

Initial Software Enhancements and Performance Boosts

Following its release, the OnePlus 5T quickly received its first set of software improvements. On November 24, 2017, the inaugural update brought enhancements to the camera performance, improved fingerprint sensor responsiveness, and overall system optimization. A subsequent update on December 8, 2017, further refined the device's performance and significantly improved image quality, solidifying its standing in mobile photography.

The Android Oreo Journey

The journey through major Android versions began with the rollout of Android Oreo. On January 31, 2018, the OnePlus 5T received its official update to Android Oreo 8.0, bringing new features and system optimizations. This was followed by an announcement on March 12, 2018, confirming that the Android Oreo 8.1 update was set to make its way to both the OnePlus 5 and 5T, further enhancing the user experience with the latest Android iterations.

Integrating Project Treble and Android Pie

In an effort to facilitate faster future updates, an important update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T was released on August 22, 2018, introducing support for Project Treble. This architectural change streamlined the update process, preparing the devices for subsequent Android versions. The culmination of these software efforts arrived in December 2018, with the official rollout of Android 9.0 (Pie) to the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
